Turkish Footballer Could Be Banned from Euro 2024 for "Gray Wolves" Gesture
A Turkish footballer could face a ban from Euro 2024 after displaying radical nationalist gestures.
UEFA has launched an investigation into Turkish player Merih Demiral for celebrating a goal during the match against Austria by displaying a nationalist gesture.
Specifically, Demiral showed the "Gray Wolves" gesture, which is prohibited in Austria and France. UEFA's regulations do not tolerate such expressions of hostility.
This gesture symbolizes the Turkish far-right nationalist group Bozkurtlar ("Gray Wolves") which is associated with racial superiority, antisemitism, hatred towards Armenians, and Islamism.
