How to Cope with Heat and Maintain Health: Ministry of Health Issues Warning
In Yerevan and the Ararat plain, the air temperature is 35-36°C according to the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, which means it is essential to mitigate the negative effects of high temperatures and ultraviolet radiation on the body.
Here are 7 simple rules for coping with the heat and maintaining health:
- Avoid direct sunlight, especially between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
- Wear a hat, sunglasses, and use an umbrella; opt for loose-fitting clothes in white or light colors, preferably made of cotton.
- Avoid spicy and oily foods; prefer lighter, easily digestible meals.
- Consume plenty of fruits and raw vegetables.
- Drink more fluids than usual (approximately 3 liters daily), especially water, yogurt, natural juices without sugar, and tea. The liquids should be cool or slightly chilled, as this better quenches thirst; do not excessively chill the liquids.
- Avoid overconsumption of caffeinated and sugary beverages, both hot and cold. Individuals with cardiovascular or urinary system diseases should consult their physician before increasing fluid intake.
- It is advisable for children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses to rest or lie down during the hottest hours of the day, as lying down can help with heat dissipation and blood circulation.
