Iran Registers First Female Candidate for Upcoming Presidential Elections
In Iran, doctor and politician Zohreh Elahian has become the first woman to register as a candidate for the upcoming early presidential elections, triggered by the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash. This was reported by Mehr on June 1.
Following her registration, Elahian stated that her slogan will be 'Healthy Governance, Healthy Economy, and Healthy Society.' She expressed pride in the country’s achievements and promised to introduce a new model of governance that would leverage the potential of the youth while valuing political and social freedoms.
The politician remarked on her registration on the social network X (formerly Twitter), saying, 'The sun of hope and honor will rise over Islamic Iran with the hope of a bright future and reaching the pinnacle of dignity. After consulting with the greats, I will be present in the country’s electoral headquarters in a few hours as a small part of my country's women community.'
