VIDEO: The Goods Have Completely Spoiled - I Threw Away 500 Kilograms of Meat - What is the Situation in Lori
Yesterday, I brought 500 kilograms of meat to the store, and this morning I threw it all away. This was reported to NEWS.am by a resident of Alaverdi, whose shop has suffered significant losses due to the flooding of the Debed River.
“I brought meat in the evening, and by morning, I had to throw away 500 kg of meat. We couldn’t come here at night. I brought a bull weighing about 230 kilograms, 3 pigs, and 2 lambs. The water has filled everything with sand, trees, and stones,” he said.
Another shop owner mentioned that 50 percent of his store was filled with water, stating, “The goods were completely spoiled. I noticed it after 2 PM, but we couldn’t do anything. It was only around noon that we were able to get close.”
Another resident of Alaverdi was trying to help those affected: “There was water up to the cableway; there was no passage, the whole area was flooded. The water reached halfway across the road. There were structures on the riverbank, and everything has been washed away.”
It is worth noting that on May 26, heavy rains that fell in the Lori and Tavush regions caused the Debed River to overflow. As a result, roads and bridges collapsed, homes and vehicles were submerged, people were trapped, and bridges crumbled. Due to the flooding, the M-6 interstate road is closed for traffic in both directions. The level of the Debed River rose by 6 meters yesterday, inundating the 530mm water pipeline from Alaverdi to Archis to Noyemberyan, which led to water supply disruptions in 16 communities, although it has been restored today. Currently, there are 4 reported fatalities due to the flooding. The Ministry of ES reports that as of 8:00 AM today, water levels have fallen compared to the levels observed yesterday at 8:00 AM: the water level in the Debed River at the Ayrum observation point has decreased by 105 cm, in the Dzoraget River by 70 cm, in the Pambak River by 50 cm, and in the Tashir River by 57 cm.
