VIDEO: Auto Convoy from Gyumri to Abovyan to Join Bishop Bagrat
An auto convoy has been initiated from Gyumri under the blessing of Mikael Archbishop Ajapahyan, the head of the Shirak Diocese, heading towards the city of Abovyan. The participants of the procession announced that they will join the march led by Bishop Bagrat.
It should be noted that on April 19, the commissions on border demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to start the demarcation from the Tavush province. The descriptions of the border areas will be compiled taking into account the clarifications of coordinates resulting from geodetic measurements in the terrain, which is expected to be completed by May 15, 2024.
The Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia has announced that as a result of this demarcation, Azerbaijan gains 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia reduces security risks. A change will be made to several hundred meters of the road section near the village of Kiran, whereas Voskepar will not face any road issues. After the demarcation, armed forces will withdraw from the areas of four villages and yield their positions to border troops.
Residents of border villages in Tavush have been protesting on the Armenia-Georgia interstate road since April 19. They oppose the demarcation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku. Despite all this, 40 border posts have already been installed along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Those opposing the demarcation process, led by Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese, are marching from Kiran to Yerevan to suspend the unilateral demarcation process. They plan to arrive in Yerevan by May 9. A rally is scheduled for May 9 at 16:00 in the Republic Square of Yerevan.
