Parents Raise Concerns as 50-Year-Old Nursery School in Yerevan Remains Closed for Nearly 2 Years
The N 95 nursery school located at 124 Andranik Street in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan has not reopened for nearly two years. Parents who have registered their children at the nursery reached out to Auroranews regarding the situation.
“The N 95 nursery school, which has a 50-year history, has been undergoing major renovations since July 1, 2022. The building was expected to be operational again by July 1, 2023. However, construction work has yet to be completed, and in fact, it has not been undertaken for months. Our children are waiting in uncertainty at this registered kindergarten. Inside, there is furniture, and new furniture has also been received, but as of now, the windows are broken,” the parents stated during an interview.
“We have repeatedly contacted the city’s hotline and various state institutions, but we have not received any concrete responses. Many parents will soon have to return to work and are unsure what to do with their children. To transfer to another kindergarten, we would have to re-register, which could take months,” they added.
To clarify the situation, Auroranews contacted the Yerevan City Hall, where officials stated that everything would be done to ensure the nursery building is ready for operation by September 1 at the latest. “There has been a deviation in the nursery’s project, meaning there was a need to make alterations to the design and add specific details. For this reason, construction was halted for a period. However, now, according to the updated project, which has been approved, all technical issues have been resolved, and work on the N 95 nursery school will soon resume. Our colleagues have assured that everything will be done to ensure the nursery building is operational by September 1, allowing children to return to their normal process as justifiably requested by parents. Further work will also be carried out to improve the courtyard area,” the city hall representatives said.
