Video: Strike at Ejmiadzin School No. 11 – Reasons Revealed
Parents at Ejmiadzin's School No. 11 organized a protest and are staging a strike. They are concerned about the alarming situation regarding stray dogs in the city, claiming these animals pose a serious threat to public safety and health.
According to participants of the protest, including Anahit Mamikonyan, the mother of two students from the school, the strike has no connection to the educational system. “We are protesting to make our voices heard for the safety of our children, as the entire neighborhood is filled with stray dogs. The dogs have even attacked two individuals, who are in critical condition. These dogs are often found on school grounds. The second incident of dog attacks occurred just two days ago,” she stated.
She added that due to the threat of aggressive dogs, children are being deprived of going to playgrounds or shops. However, they cannot avoid going to school.
The protest organizers marched from the school to the municipality. “The Vice Mayor Arsen Petrosyan met with us at the city hall, expressing his concern and promising that they would seek to resolve this urgent issue as soon as possible. He stated that the regional administration is already aware of the problem. The Vice Mayor mentioned that this is not just an issue for one neighborhood but for the entire city,” they reported.
Anahit Mamikonyan also mentioned that starting tomorrow, the children will return to school but they are conditionally suspending the strike, hoping for a positive resolution to the issue during this week. “We cannot just sit back with our arms crossed; the safety of our children is a priority. We don’t always manage to accompany our children, and they are afraid to go to school alone,” she concluded.
It should be noted that on Charents Street in Ejmiadzin, four stray dogs attacked an elderly woman, resulting in severe injuries that left her unconscious. She was taken to the hospital, where her arm was amputated.
