Armenia Comparing Itself to the EU is Unwarranted, Says Zakharova
The current Armenian authorities are unwarrantedly comparing the ancient Armenian civilization, which has a rich and long history, to the European Union, whose current affairs are evidently poor. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, made this statement during an interview with the "Zvezda" television channel.
"Today, I came across a statement from one of the representatives of Armenia's official structures, who said that Armenia is a bearer of some European democratic values. You know what surprises me: why are the current authorities comparing the ancient Armenian civilization—its culture, its history—to a stagnant European Union, when, excuse me, they existed long before European democracy? Armenia has a millennia-old culture and state structure," Zakharova stated.
She emphasized that Yerevan has found a model for itself that no one in the West takes seriously anymore. Zakharova also expressed her surprise at Armenia's decision to associate itself with the EU, describing it as an "absolutely amorphous, colorless, disintegrating structure," especially considering that Armenian civilization boasts a thousand-year history that precedes European democracy.
