Borel: Azerbaijan's Response to Armenian Gunfire is Disproportionate
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan discussed the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and recent developments.
“Azerbaijan's response to the gunfire from the Armenian side is disproportionate, ignoring the statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministry that the incident will be investigated. This once again highlights the urgent need to withdraw troops, which the EU has been insisting on for a long time,” said Josep Borrell at a joint press conference with Mirzoyan.
According to Borrell, “The EU supports the establishment of lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on the principles of sovereignty, inviolability of borders, and territorial integrity.” The EU official noted that the capabilities of the EU mission in Armenia have recently been increased, particularly in terms of numbers.
