Completion of School at 20 and Marriage: No Military Service for Tumanyan, Says Khmoyan

Member of the National Assembly from the "Hayastan" faction, Agnesa Khmoyan advised the members of the "Civil Contract" faction to think carefully before voting for Karen Tumanyan's appointment to the Supreme Judicial Council. According to Khmoyan, by voting for him, the representatives of the Civil Contract party take on moral responsibility as they are electing a person who has evaded mandatory military service.

"Do you want to make someone a member of the Supreme Judicial Council who has avoided military service by getting married? It turns out that Mr. Tumanyan graduated from school at 20 years old, registered his marriage one year before being drafted, and according to all documents and biographical details, he entered school at 10 years old, graduated at 20, got married at 20, and he is no longer subject to military service," the deputy stated.

She advised the Civil Contract members to read the conclusion of the Anti-Corruption Commission regarding ethics so they will have a basis to criticize former officials who avoided military service.

The opposition MP also added that the ruling party wishes to make someone a member of the Supreme Judicial Council who, aside from a problematic biography, is not a legal scholar, which constitutes a violation of the Constitution.

Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan expressed his indignation at Agnesa Khmoyan's speech, emphasizing that today the assembly is discussing not the appointment of a Supreme Judicial Council member, but a judge of the Court of Cassation. Rubinyan suggested that Khmoyan's microphone be turned off.
