VIDEO: I would answer in a way that would shake the world. Aghazaryan on the corruption scandal
The fight against corruption does not differentiate between insiders or outsiders. This was stated by MP Hovik Aghazaryan of the ruling My Step Alliance in an interview with NEWS.am, regarding the recent arrests in the Ministry of Economy, including the detention of Ani Gevorgyan, the wife of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian.
"The essence of this fight is such that these negative phenomena need to be eradicated, and often preventive measures must be taken. The investigation will proceed, and it will become clear what is what. It should not be said that such actions are being taken against insiders because the proper law enforcement agencies are not guided by such narratives; they perform their duty," he said.
In response to the observation that the government already knew what each of its teammates was doing, and why these revelations are happening now, Aghazaryan commented, "If the situation were not so difficult, I would answer that question in such an interesting way that it would shake the world. What do you mean why? Every question matures and comes to its solution. Journalists constantly ask why Ashotyan was arrested now, why this happened at this moment. Because it is a process that goes on and reaches its logical conclusion. It is not easy to arrest someone and detain them without serious grounds. The law enforcement agencies are not going to announce, saying, 'Dear so-and-so, we are going to impose such sanctions against you; if you have the opportunity, evade.'"
Regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement months ago, questioning whether Alen Simonian's brother should remain idle, the My Step MP said, "Yes, Alen Simonian's brother, the sons of Hovik Aghazaryan, and the relatives of other officials should not remain idle, right? On the other hand, wherever Alen Simonian's brother or Hovik Aghazaryan's son is, if there is a tender or whatever, there is undoubtedly a corruption risk. Now it is the responsibility of law enforcement and journalists to monitor and determine whether that corruption risk is linked to corruption or not. This is my answer."
