"The People Will Decide What Text Will Be in the Constitution" - Vardanyan
The Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, Vladimir Vardanyan, addressed discussions on the adoption of a new constitution. He stated that the legitimacy of the Constitution cannot be questioned, as we all currently operate according to the Constitution.
"I would like us to view the Constitution as a living document, and at this stage of social development, there is a necessity to modify or revise it in light of public opinion and the presence of a public vote. In this perspective, Armenia is neither the first nor the last country that, after gaining independence, engages in discussions not only about constitutional reforms but also about a new text of the Constitution. Ultimately, the decision rests not only with me and you, but also with the lawmaker who will vote in the referendum for or against this or that Constitution," he said.
Speaking about the removal of the reference to the Declaration of Independence from the new constitution, Vardanyan mentioned, "If the new text of the Constitution is put to a referendum, then it is the people who will decide what text will be included there."
