“This Means Our Neighbors Will Form an Alliance to Annihilate Us”: Pashinyan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggests approaching the issue of restoring historical justice, as enshrined in the 'Declaration of Independence,' from the perspective of not just Azerbaijan, but other neighboring countries as well.
“What does it mean to restore historical justice? The Republic of Armenia declares independence on the territory of the Armenian SSR and states that we must restore historical justice. How do our surroundings perceive this message? We constantly discuss how Azerbaijan perceives it, how Turkey perceives it, but we never ask how does Georgia perceive it?” said Pashinyan.
He urged to examine why, for example, Georgia has strong defensive relations with Azerbaijan, but not with Armenia. “Could this be related to the messages we have established as the foundation of our state?” Pashinyan rhetorically questioned.
According to the Prime Minister, if the decisions of the National Council of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Supreme Council of Armenia regarding the unification of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia are placed at the foundation of our state policy, it means peace will never be achieved. “This is a matter of political choice. If yes, it means we will never have peace. Moreover, it signifies that we will have war now,” Pashinyan asserted.
He added that when we talk about the development of the economy and the strengthening of the army, it means we are moving towards implementing the provisions of our declaration. “This means that our neighbors will form an alliance to annihilate us because we have declared that we at least have a topic with them,” Pashinyan concluded.
He believes that if the aforementioned points are removed from state policy, we will not face issues even when importing weapons.
