Texas Plans to Extend Barbed Wire Barriers Along Entire Mexico Border
Texas authorities plan to extend barbed wire barriers along the entire border with Mexico, which spans more than three thousand kilometers. According to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, federal authorities will need 'a lot of cutters' to dismantle all the barriers, especially since Texas can quickly restore them.
Patrick also noted that just a few months ago, at least three thousand migrants were crossing the Texas border daily, and now, following the state's construction of barriers, that number has dropped to zero. He added that there is no sense in the Biden administration 'coming and cutting the barbed wire.'
Moreover, he emphasized that Texas is not seeking confrontation. A few days ago, Governor Greg Abbott expressed readiness to conflict with federal authorities if they start dismantling barriers along the Mexico border. In an interview with prominent journalist Tucker Carlson, Abbott promised, 'we will continue to expand the scope of the constructed barriers.'
Previously, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Biden administration to remove the barbed wire barriers that Texas authorities had stretched. At that time, Abbott spoke about self-defense measures against migrants, claiming that federal authorities have failed to secure the border. Meanwhile, 25 Republican governors accused President Biden of being unwilling to combat illegal migration and expressed solidarity with Texas authorities.
