Klar Won't Travel from Yerevan to Baku: Reasons Revealed
European Union Special Representative Toivo Klaar, who is currently in Armenia, will not travel to Baku after Yerevan. “As you know, it is currently the election campaign period in Azerbaijan, which is why a visit to Baku is not planned at this time. However, the EU special representative is in close contact and regularly communicates with the leadership of Azerbaijan,” Klaar’s office informed Azatutyun.
A few days ago, the Senior Advisor for Caucasus Affairs to the U.S. Secretary of State, Louis Bono, was in Yerevan. The official Yerevan reported that the main purpose of the visit of the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group was to organize a trilateral meeting in Washington, aiming to move forward with the finalization and signing of a peace agreement. However, Bono also did not visit Baku after Yerevan. The reasons for this were not officially explained.
Presidential snap elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for February 7.
