US Does Not Support Taiwan Independence, Says Biden
US President Joe Biden has stated that the US does not support Taiwan's independence. Hours before the start of voting on the island, Washington warned that any interference in the elections from 'any' country is 'unacceptable', according to Reuters.
'The US is Taiwan's most important arms sponsor and supplier despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations. The Biden administration is concerned that the elections, the transitional period, and the new administration will escalate tensions with Beijing,' the report says.
It was previously reported that Lai Ching-te, the presidential candidate from Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party, has come to power in Taiwan. He has rejected pressure from China to step down and pledged to stand firm against Beijing.
