Meeting of Demarcation Commissions to Take Place Soon

A meeting between the demarcation and border security commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan is set to take place in the near future. This was confirmed by the office of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan in response to a query from Factinfo.

While there is a preliminary agreement in place, specific dates have yet to be confirmed. The office noted, "There is currently no definitive agreement on the date and location of the meeting." This will mark the sixth meeting of the commissions. The previous, fifth meeting was held on November 30, 2023, under the co-chairmanship of Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev at the border between the two countries.

According to an official statement from the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties at that meeting reached a preliminary agreement on the text of the procedure for organizing and conducting meetings and joint working sessions of the State Commission for Demarcation of the State Border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the Joint Commission for the Demarcation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia.

In December, the Armenian government approved the working procedure for the demarcation commissions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, the parties have yet to reach consensus on which historical maps will be referenced for the demarcation process.
