US Signs Secret Agreement with Qatar
The United States and Qatar have secretly extended the agreement regarding the deployment of American troops at the Al Udeid airbase, the largest in the Middle East. This was reported by CNN, citing three American military officials and another informed source.
“The US has signed a secret agreement that extends its military presence at Qatar’s major base for another ten years,” the agency states.
The agreement pertains to the Al Udeid airbase, located southwest of Doha, which is the largest US military base in the Middle East and can accommodate over 10,000 American soldiers.
Previously, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced that a multinational operation named “Guardians of Prosperity” was initiated for the protection of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in response to attacks on commercial vessels by Houthi forces from Yemen. Pentagon spokesperson Patrick Ryder also stated that over 20 countries have joined the US-led operation.
