857 Children Hospitalized in 2022 Due to Poisoning from Medications
In 2022, 857 children under the age of 17 were hospitalized due to the toxic effects of medications, biological materials, and primarily non-medical substances. This information was reported by the Ministry of Health. Among them, 35 were children under the age of one.
Remember, small children may mistake pills for candy and liquid medicines for sweet drinks. Therefore, medications, vitamins, and medical supplies should be kept out of reach of children. Ensure that any medications you carry (in bags, wallets, pockets, or containers) are out of children's sight. Never leave pills or liquid medications on tables or beside beds. Always read the package insert before giving medicine to a child, store medications in their original boxes to avoid confusion, and teach children the safety rules regarding medicines.
