Another 16 States Demand Trump Be Barred from Participating in Primaries
Another 16 states have decided to follow Colorado's example and demand that former U.S. President Donald Trump be barred from participating in the Republican Party's internal elections, known as the primaries, for the 2024 presidential candidacy. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT), citing its sources.
It was revealed the day before that the Colorado Supreme Court has prohibited Donald Trump from participating in the internal party elections. This decision was made based on the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. According to the third section of this amendment, a person who has held a military or civil office and has engaged in insurrection may not hold public office.
“Lawsuits are currently being considered in at least 16 states arguing that Trump is ineligible to run for the presidency under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution,” the article states.
It was previously reported that members of the Colorado Supreme Court faced a barrage of threats following the decision to disqualify Trump from the internal party elections.
It should be noted that Trump has been charged in cases related to attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections and the January 2021 attack on the Capitol, and he denies any wrongdoing.
