Colorado Court Bars Trump from Running in Presidential Election
The Colorado Supreme Court has ruled that former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is preparing to run for president in 2024, cannot submit his candidacy and must be removed from the state’s Republican primary ballot, CBS reports.
The decision was made based on the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. According to the third section of this amendment, individuals who have engaged in insurrection after holding a military or civil office are disqualified from holding public office. Trump faces charges related to attempts to challenge the 2020 election results and his involvement in the January 2021 Capitol attack (he denies wrongdoing).
The majority of justices believe that Trump is unfit for the presidency.
