Israel Knew About Hamas Plans Since 2022, NYT Reports

Israeli officials received documents regarding plans by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to infiltrate Israel more than a year before the October attack, but they dismissed them as overly ambitious. This was reported by The New York Times on Thursday, citing documents and emails from Israeli officials.

According to the publication, a 40-page document on Hamas’s plans did not contain a specific date for action but described all Israeli fortifications, military positions, and capabilities. Israeli analysts believed the scale of such an operation was beyond Hamas's capabilities and referred to it as an ambitious plan.

The newspaper notes that the Palestinian movement followed this plan with “remarkable precision.” Officials admitted that had they taken the document seriously, Israel could have prepared for or avoided the infiltration by Hamas militants on October 7.
