US Begins Development of Nuclear Bomb to Destroy Underground Command Centers
The American Lockheed Martin defense corporation has received a contract from the US Department of Defense worth nearly $996.2 million to produce warheads for the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile, according to a Pentagon report. The program is expected to be completed by October 2039.
In 2024, the Pentagon will allocate $26 million for research, development, and testing, with the contractor being the Air Force’s nuclear weapons center.
Previously, the Pentagon announced the launch of the development program for the new B61-13 nuclear air-dropped bomb. The B61-13 is designed to strike underground facilities with high precision, targeting entry teams to allow the shock wave to penetrate through communications.
The first $52 million has been allocated for the development of the bomb until 2024.
