Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Agenda: Putin
Russia is ready to organize negotiations on the peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the meeting of the heads of CIS countries in Bishkek.
According to him, the West is striving to undermine friendly relations between Russia's allies and partners, in a broad sense. He stated, "Any means are being used," adding that a recent example of such Western activity was the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis, which we discussed in detail yesterday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“Over the past three years, Russia has made significant efforts to cease hostilities and prevent escalation. With our assistance, the relevant trilateral documents have been prepared. Ilham Aliyev can confirm that throughout this time, in the trilateral format, Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan have been working hard towards normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan. Russian peacekeepers have diligently fulfilled their obligations within their authority,” he noted.
Putin stated that the current agenda is to prepare a peace agreement to end this long-standing conflict. “And Russia is certainly ready to provide all possible assistance to this process. In particular, the Russian Federation is prepared to organize negotiations in Moscow, if necessary, in any format, starting with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and a working group of experts. And of course, we will help ensure that these negotiations result in a peace agreement that will be signed by the leaders of both countries. I reiterate, the choice is always up to these countries. We are ready to create conditions for this work,” he added.
