Ethnic Cleansing of Armenians Could Deepen Without Urgent Action from Court, Says Alison MacDonald
On October 12, during the examination of Armenia's complaint against Azerbaijan at the International Court of Justice, the Armenian representative, Professor Alison MacDonald, stated:
“The violent actions by Azerbaijan on September 19 have been characterized by the European Parliament as a planned, unjustified military assault, which constitutes a gross violation of human rights and international law, and contradicts the ceasefire agreement of November 9, 2020.
As a result of this assault, more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians have left their homes, taking with them only what they could carry by hand. This tragedy is only now being realized; the ethnic cleansing is horrifying. But we are here today because deeper harm could occur if the court does not take urgent action.”
