Video: Arrests in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Suspected of Large-Scale Embezzlement

Within the framework of a criminal case being investigated by the Main Investigation Department of the Military Investigation Committee of Armenia, in collaboration with the officers of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the NSS of Armenia, it has been revealed that during the procurement procedures organized for the needs of the Ministry of Defense from 2019 to 2021, there was embezzlement in the amount of 106,300,000 AMD.

The preliminary investigation has established that G.A., while holding the position of Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defense, had been involved in organizational and administrative functions as a public official. He was appointed as the responsible head of the units for three procurement procedures organized in 2019, 2020, and 2021 under code N. By abusing his official position, in collusion with A.B., Director of ‘El…’ LLC, S.A., Director of ‘Nor…’ NGO, and others, they introduced false information into official documents and, through deception, embezzled a significant amount reaching 106,300,000 AMD from the state.

Criminal charges have been brought against G.A. under point 1 of part 3 of Article 178 and part 1 of Article 314 of the old Criminal Code of Armenia on September 15, 2023. Charges were also brought against A.B. under the same articles and against S.A. under part 1 of Article 38-178, and against K.P. and A.A. under parts 1 of Article 38-178 and Article 38-314 as well. On the same day, a decision was made to arrest them.

An application has been submitted to the Court to apply detention as a preventive measure against G.A., S.A., and A.B. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
