Negotiations for Creating Russian-Turkish Gas Hub Continue: Turkish Minister

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that negotiations are ongoing for the establishment of a Russian-Turkish gas hub in the country.

According to him, there was a brief pause in this process due to the devastating earthquake, but now Russia and Turkey are continuing their discussions. “After we were offered this trading platform for gas, an earthquake occurred, and elections were held. So, there was a bit of a pause, but now we are negotiating again... We are not opposed to the creation of an additional platform for gas trading. But if we currently have an operational trading platform, then there is no need to wait another year to start this commercial activity,” the Turkish minister stated during a press conference in Ankara, responding to a question from a TASS reporter.

It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the idea of creating a gas hub in Turkey in October 2022. However, on September 14, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the establishment of the gas hub in Turkey for the supply of Russian fuel to Europe has been halted. According to the agency, the reason for this halt was a dispute over who should specifically manage the facility.
