European Commission Launches Investigation into Chinese Electric Vehicle Subsidies

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has presented her annual report summarizing her administration's four years of work ahead of next year's European elections.

Ursula von der Leyen has announced an investigation into the subsidies provided by the Chinese government for electric vehicles to protect the European industry from "artificially low prices."

“Global markets are now flooded with cheap Chinese electric vehicles, the prices of which are kept artificially low due to massive state subsidies,” von der Leyen stated during her speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. “Europe is open to competition, but not to a race to the bottom,” she added.
