France Becomes the Third Country in the World by Number of Millionaires for the First Time

In France, over 2.8 million people have a fortune exceeding 1 million dollars, according to TASS news agency.

According to BFMTV, as per calculations by Switzerland's UBS bank, France is home to 4.8% of the world's millionaires as of 2022. The leading country in this ranking is the United States, where 38.2% of millionaires reside (22.7 million people), followed by China with 10.5% (6.23 million people).

BFMTV notes that France has 'for the first time secured the third position, surpassing Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.' The Republic has climbed in the ranking due to a significant decrease in the number of millionaires in the aforementioned countries compared to last year. Specifically, Japan saw a decline of 466,000, the United Kingdom by 439,000, and Germany by 253,000.

France has managed not only to withstand the general trend of declining millionaire numbers but has also slightly increased theirs (by just 25).

According to economists, in 2022, the number of people with wealth exceeding 1 million dollars worldwide decreased by 3.5 million. This marks the first time since 2008 that such a decline has been observed, attributed to inflation, rising interest rates, and the drop in the value of certain currencies against the dollar.

The number of individuals with fortunes exceeding 50 million dollars is considerably less. According to UBS, this number stood at 243,000 in 2022. The United States also ranks first in this category (about 124,000 people), with Russia in sixth place (around 4,500) and France in ninth (about 4,000).

BFMTV reports that in 2022, approximately 59.4 million people globally had assets exceeding 1 million dollars, down from 62.9 million in 2021. According to BFMTV's projections, by the end of the decade, the total number of millionaires worldwide could reach up to 86 million.
