Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtaryan Dies After Being Beaten in Vayots Dzor

Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtaryan has died after being bedridden and unconscious for four years following a violent assault he suffered in 2019, reports TV5.

For the past month, he had been in the central military hospital of the Ministry of Defense, with his appearance having changed unrecognizably.

It is recalled that Mkrtaryan was brutally beaten on September 18, 2019, in the yard of a building on Arsenyan Street in the city of Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor Province, and had been in a coma since then.

Family members claim that Tigran Sargsyan was directly involved in the violence against the lieutenant colonel, who announced his resignation from the position of governor following the incident.

Only the governor's assistant has been detained in connection with the case.
