Russian Embassy in Baku Sends Open Letter to Azerbaijani News Outlet
The Russian Embassy in Baku has issued an open letter addressed to the Azerbaijani Minval news portal. Russian diplomats expressed their protest against the dissemination of "anti-Russian materials," particularly citing several articles published by the website in recent days.
In these articles, Minval journalists claimed that the protests that began in the Goychay region were being funded from Moscow, and that the Russian side was arming Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Embassy also expressed its astonishment at the publication of an interview with Isa Najafov, a judge of Azerbaijan's Constitutional Court, on the website. In this interview, the court member alleged that "Russian special services intended to poison Heydar Aliyev's grandchildren living in London in the 1990s."
Russian diplomats labeled this information as a fabrication, asserting that by disseminating such information, Minval has contributed to a propaganda campaign launched by the British against Russia.
"It is regrettable that Minval is being used in the anti-Russian informational propaganda campaign from London in the friendly territory of Azerbaijan, which contradicts the provisions of the 'Declaration on Allied Cooperation' signed by the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, on February 22, 2022," the statement from the Russian Embassy reads.
