Trump Administration Plans to Revoke Up to 200,000 Visas

The Trump administration is preparing to revoke business and tourist visas for up to 200,000 foreigners who have sought asylum in the United States. This has been reported by the Associated Press (AP), citing sources and documents from the State Department.

If enacted, this decision would constitute the largest mass revocation of visas in U.S. history. According to agency reports, the State Department, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, will announce the revocation of B1 and B2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026. This announcement is expected to occur in the "coming weeks."

State Department representative Tommy Pigott has indirectly confirmed the plans, stating that his agency is working on the identification and revocation of non-immigrant visas held by foreigners who entered the U.S. claiming a temporary stay, only to later apply for permanent residency through asylum.

However, he did not clarify the number of visas that would be revoked. AP sources specify that the revocation of these visas does not necessarily mean that individuals will be immediately deported. Most of those whose applications are currently under review will be shifted to another category but will "lose their status as business or tourist travelers."

B1 visas are typically issued for business travel, while B2 visas are for tourism, visiting relatives, or seeking medical treatment. When these visas are issued, applicants are asked to confirm their intent to return to their home countries and that they will not be applying for asylum in the U.S.
