Video: Water from the Destroyed Kakhovka HPP Floods Settlements in Kherson Region
The water from the destroyed Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant has flooded settlements in the Kherson region. Footage shows that as a result of the collapse of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant, the settlements in the Kherson region have been partially flooded. Three operational groups of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have been dispatched to Nova Kakhovka, Golaya Prystan, and Alyoshka.
The situation related to the flooding of the settlements is under control due to the influence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The operational headquarters created in connection with the situation at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant is headed by the acting governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also stated that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant currently does not see an immediate threat due to the collapse of the Kakhovka HPP dam. "Water from the Kakhovka reservoir is necessary to provide the plant with supply for the condensers of the turbines and safety systems of the Zaporozhye NPP," the Energyatom statement noted. The nuclear power plant currently has sufficient water reserves for those needs, but the rapidly decreasing water level in the reservoir may change the situation, said the representatives of Energyatom, adding that the company's specialists are monitoring the situation.
Earlier, it was reported that the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant located in the Kherson region had collapsed.
