Weapons Exist in All Border Communities, Says Syunik Governor
In the border communities of the Syunik region, there is a sufficient amount of weapons for self-defense. This was stated by the Governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, during a press briefing with journalists, addressing the issue of Azerbaijani positions being very close and the necessary security measures that need to be implemented.
He emphasized that, for understandable reasons, he would not disclose many details regarding this issue, but confidently reiterated that weapons exist in all border communities. "Weapons are present in all border communities. There are individuals who want to always carry weapons with them, which is definitely not right. We need to be vigilant. As you understand, if there are no clear regulations regarding the carrying and storage of weapons, unfortunate incidents may occur as a result. It is incorrect to say that there are no weapons in border villages. They are there," he stated.
According to the governor, even a soldier stationed at the front line always leaves their weapon in the armory when they come down from their post and a rotation occurs. He highlighted that the amount of weapons in the region is as much as deemed necessary by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
The governor pointed out that several communities in Syunik, including the town of Kapan, are under the fire control of Azerbaijani forces. Syunik has approximately 420 km of border with Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
