Couldn’t We Have Installed a Scanner in Advance to Stay One Step Ahead of the Opponent? Samvel Babayan on the Situation in Artsakh

During a public discussion on the topic of "Blocked Road. Why is it blocked, who should reopen it, how should we act?" Samvel Babayan, the leader of the United Homeland party, presented his vision for solutions and actions regarding the current situation.

According to a report from Artsakhpress, Babayan noted that Azerbaijan had repeatedly disseminated disinformation claiming that the Armenian side was transporting weapons and ammunition through the Lachin corridor before establishing a checkpoint there, making it predictable that they would attempt to take certain actions.

“The opponent accused us daily of bringing weapons, implying that they would soon close the road. Couldn't we have installed a scanner in advance to stay one step ahead of the opponent and set the agenda?” Babayan stated, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures from the Artsakh side in facing challenges posed by Azerbaijan.

He believes that the recent signature campaign launched in Artsakh will yield no results, as similar attempts were made in the 1990s, but were futile.

In regard to actions that should be taken in the current situation, the speaker considers that if Russian peacekeepers are unable to open the road connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the outside world, at least the number of vehicles should be increased to ensure the continuous supply of essential humanitarian goods, so that queues can be regulated and people can live a relatively normal life in Artsakh.

“We should at least say, ‘Do that, until we understand what the enemy wants.’ Gas, electricity, and communication cables should be brought through this road. The issue should be addressed at least regarding that part. We need to build our section of the road up to Yeghdzahogh,” Babayan said.

According to him, he has not come to fight, yet it is necessary to transition to a professional army mechanism. “We need to create an army, a strong army,” emphasized the leader of the United Homeland party. He then answered questions from those present that concerned them.
