VIDEO: UN Aircraft Destroyed Amid Clashes in Sudan
A United Nations (UN) aircraft has been destroyed during clashes between the Sudanese army and special forces at Khartoum International Airport. This was reported by the Al Arabiya television channel.
In one of their reports, the channel's journalists showed footage of the burned fuselage wreckage from the airport. However, the channel did not provide information regarding whose actions led to the aircraft's destruction. Moreover, it has not been officially confirmed that the destroyed aircraft actually belonged to the UN.
Earlier, it was reported that a Saudia airline Airbus A330, which is the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, crashed at Khartoum Airport early in the morning. The airline stated that the aircraft was preparing to fly from Khartoum to Riyadh. The airline has not specified what damage the aircraft sustained or the cause of the crash.
It has only been reported that all flights to and from Sudan have been suspended.
A coup attempt occurred in Sudan on April 15, with special forces attacking military contingents in several neighborhoods of Khartoum. This incident forced the regular army to retaliate. Shortly thereafter, rapid response forces captured Khartoum Airport and Merowe, halting air traffic. Several Russian-made fighter jets have also been seized.
