Montenegro Excludes Transfer of Frozen Russian Assets to Ukraine

Montenegro has ruled out the transfer of frozen Russian assets in the country to Ukraine. This information was reported by Коммерсантъ, citing Milan Kneževic, the head of the Assembly (Parliament) Committee on Security and Defense of Montenegro.

“This is contrary to the Constitution, Montenegrin laws, and EU norms. This will not happen,” said the politician in an interview. According to him, the possibility of transferring the property and funds of blocked Russians in Montenegro to Kyiv is “completely excluded.”

Additionally, he noted that in the near future, Montenegro's leadership will discuss the legality of freezing Russian citizens' assets. According to Kneževic, since the start of military operations in Ukraine, 44 properties belonging to 34 Russians have been frozen in the country.

At the same time, the restrictions applied by Montenegro only concern citizens of the Russian Federation (political figures, political strategists, businessmen, and journalists) who are included in the EU sanctions list.
