The State Revenue Committee Prepares for the Possible Reopening of the Margara Border Crossing with Turkey
The State Revenue Committee of Armenia has begun preparations for the possible reopening of the Margara border crossing with Turkey. This information was provided by the agency in response to a request from Sputnik Armenia.
"To ensure the technical aspects of the potential reopening of the Margara border crossing, the State Revenue Committee has appealed to the community council of Metsamor to transfer the property located in the Margara settlement, which is considered community property, along with the land necessary for its use and maintenance, as a donation to the SRC," the response stated.
The mentioned property is intended to be used for customs control processes if the need arises in the future. "Currently, studies are being conducted to ensure the customs control process," the SRC has reported.
It is important to note that this refers to the customs building and other unfinished infrastructures adjacent to the border.
The Sputnik Armenia filming crew recently visited the secured area. In our photo gallery, you can see the condition of the infrastructure.
Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the bridges and roads at the border with Turkey are suitable for operation.
It is worth recalling that there are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, and the border has been closed since 1993 at the initiative of Ankara. These complex relations are influenced by several factors; Turkey supports Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and reacts sharply to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
