New Law by Lukashenko Imposes Death Penalty for State Traitors in Belarus
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a law amending the Criminal Code regarding criminal liability. This is reported by the Telegram channel 'Пул первого'.
“The main aim of the document is to strengthen measures against crimes of extremist (terrorist) and anti-state orientation. At the same time, the possibility of applying the maximum punishment, the death penalty, for treason against the state by an official or military personnel is provided,” the statement notes.
Criminal liability is imposed for promoting terrorism, discrediting the armed forces, and violating the requirements for the protection of state secrets. In addition, the period of detention for individuals suspected of treason or committing conspiracy or other actions aimed at seizing state power is increased from three to ten days.
