Mirzoyan's Visit to Syria Planned

Humanitarian assistance allocated to Syria is becoming less accessible due to objective and subjective conditions. This was stated today by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a government session, while discussing the aid provided by Armenia to countries affected by earthquakes.

“I must note that Armenia was one of the first countries to make a decision and send humanitarian aid to Syria. We planned and are planning a visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Syrian Arab Republic as well,” said Pashinyan, adding that this visit will take place in the near future if the country does not object.

The Prime Minister noted that the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs should also travel to Syria to support the Syrian people and the Armenian community. Pashinyan emphasized that the Armenian government will maintain contact with both the Syrian and Turkish authorities to understand what kind of assistance is needed and what Armenia can do to help the countries affected by the disaster.

It is worth noting that on February 6, at 05:17, an earthquake occurred in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş province, which caused devastation in several cities. Two strong earthquakes were recorded at 14:24 and 14:36, Yerevan time. The intensity of the underground shocks in the epicentral zone reached 10-11 points. The number of earthquake casualties has reached 35,418. It should be mentioned that rescue teams from Armenia departed for Turkey and Syria on February 8.

Armenia has provided approximately 200 tons of humanitarian aid to the affected countries, including food, clothing, and medicine. A total of 157,816,100 AMD was allocated from the government’s reserve fund to provide food and bedding supplies.
