UN Not Authorized to Investigate Explosions in Nord Stream Gas Pipelines
The United Nations is currently not authorized to investigate the explosions in the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, UN Secretary-General's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said during a press briefing on Tuesday.
“To conduct an investigation, if we do not have a mandate, which clearly we do not, legislative permission is needed,” he stated, without clarifying how such permission could be obtained.
It was previously reported that the State Duma plans to appeal to the UN for an urgent international investigation regarding the incident involving the Nord Stream in the Baltic Sea.
The corresponding draft resolution (296121-8) was posted on Tuesday as part of the legislative activities of the lower house of parliament. As expected, the Duma will discuss this draft resolution at a meeting scheduled for February 16.
