‘Those Making Statements Towards European Institutions May Simply Lose the Country’: Volodin to Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Head
On Monday, the Speaker of the State Duma of Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, warned European institutions, particularly the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, during a meeting with the head of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, against attempts to engage in the resolution of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported by interfax.ru.
“Let’s start with the fact that there is a decision made at the level of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the Russian Federation. We will be guided by this and will do everything on our part to ensure that these agreements are upheld. And those who make statements towards European institutions may simply lose the country,” Volodin’s words were quoted by the official website of the State Duma.
According to the Speaker of the State Duma, the involvement of the PACE and the European Parliament in resolving the issue related to Karabakh “will worsen the situation, creating more and more new problems, and if they do so, they must bear responsibility for the consequences.”
According to the State Duma's website, the head of the Milli Majlis emphasized that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in resolving this issue.
