Putin Ready to Sacrifice Hundreds of Thousands in Ukraine, The New York Times
The number of Russian military personnel killed and wounded in Ukraine approaches 200,000. This figure is eight times higher than American losses during two decades of war in Afghanistan, according to the American newspaper The New York Times, citing U.S. and Western officials.
“The war is evolving in a manner reminiscent of the battles faced during World War II, when more than 8 million Soviet soldiers were killed. Putin is prepared to incur hundreds of thousands of casualties in Ukraine, although this could undermine his political support,” the newspaper reports.
