Russia Calls for Acceptable Compromises on the Lachin Corridor Situation
The Lachin corridor must remain under the control of Russian peacekeepers, with Moscow urging Azerbaijani and Armenian partners to demonstrate goodwill and seek mutually acceptable compromises for a swift resolution to the crisis. This was stated by Alexander Lukashevich, Russia's permanent representative to the OSCE.
“The population of Nagorno-Karabakh should not become a hostage to political disagreements between Baku and Yerevan. The Lachin corridor must remain under the control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and be used only for the purposes specified in the November 9, 2020 declaration. We call on our Azerbaijani and Armenian partners to demonstrate goodwill and find acceptable compromises for a quick resolution to the situation surrounding the Lachin corridor, coordination of mining exploitation parameters, and the resolution of issues related to electricity supply,” said Lukashevich at a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.
Lukashevich noted that Moscow is ready to support this in every possible way. He highlighted that, thanks to the efforts of Russian peacekeepers, the passage of International Red Cross emergency aid and vehicle crews through the Lachin corridor has been organized, gas supplies have been promptly restored, and internet access has been reestablished. Coordination of parameters for the repair of electricity transmission lines is also being carried out.
“Any provocative actions and public attacks on the Russian peacekeeping contingent are considered unacceptable and harmful to the process of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” he added.
