In tribute to the legendary figure of world football, the Christ the Redeemer statue has been illuminated. Additionally, Wembley Stadium in London is also lit up in national colors.

The King of Football passed away on Thursday, December 29, at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer. The cause of death was reported as organ failure.

The funeral will take place on January 3 at the vertical cemetery in Santos, with goodbyes held at his home stadium, the Santos FC ground.

Pele is a three-time world champion with the Brazilian national team and was recognized as the athlete of the century by the International Olympic Committee in 1999.
