Under What Conditions Will Russian Peacekeepers Leave Nagorno-Karabakh? – Pashinyan
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has stated that he is currently prepared to sign a document concerning the automatic extension of the Russian peacekeepers' mission in Nagorno-Karabakh.
During a public broadcast, the Prime Minister mentioned that the Russian peacekeeping contingent is stationed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor based on a resolution and mandate adopted by the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
"It is noted that the peacekeepers are stationed there to prevent the mass killings of the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and to ensure that such acts do not occur. Theoretically, even if Russia wants or decides to withdraw its forces from there, it must create additional guarantees for this mission," Pashinyan stated, adding that in any case, these guarantees must not only be established but also tested.
"Russia’s desire cannot be illegitimate. If the threat that brought the peacekeepers there has not been removed, in the event of Russia’s withdrawal, international mechanisms will find ways to deploy peacekeepers there," Nikol Pashinyan emphasized.
