Raisi on Iran's Goals Related to Armenia
Iran's goal is to increase trade with Armenia to $3 billion annually. This was announced by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during a press conference following talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The information was reported by the IRNA agency.
“In recent months, trade between the two countries has increased by 43 percent. Our goal is to reach $3 billion, and that goal is attainable. Establishing good relations between our countries will undoubtedly lead to improving relations in the region,” said Raisi.
Pashinyan, for his part, mentioned that discussions have been held on cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, and water resource management. The agency also reports that Iran and Armenia have signed a memorandum of understanding on economic cooperation in the energy sector. The parties have agreed to extend the gas and electricity supply permissions between the two countries until the end of the year.
It is noted that Iran currently exports one million cubic meters of gas to Armenia, and this amount is expected to double. Iranian gas is processed in Armenia for electricity intended for export to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The electricity exchange between the two countries will be extended until 2030.
It is worth mentioning that the Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, and Iran's Minister of Energy, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, met today to discuss various issues regarding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
