EU Calls on Azerbaijan to Investigate the Execution of Captured Armenian Soldiers
The European Union has urged Azerbaijani authorities to immediately investigate a widely circulated video in which Azerbaijani soldiers brutally execute already captured Armenian soldiers at a military position.
According to Armenpress, Peter Stano, a representative of the European External Action Service, made this statement during a press conference in Brussels.
“We call for an immediate investigation by the relevant authorities. The video that shows Azerbaijani soldiers executing Armenian soldiers should be investigated by Azerbaijani authorities,” he said.
Stano emphasized that if the results of the investigation confirm the authenticity of the video, it would constitute a war crime and a clear violation of international law. “Such crimes must be condemned,” he added.
On October 2, a video was released on Azerbaijani Telegram channels showing Azerbaijani soldiers brutally executing already captured Armenian soldiers at a military post.
The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, stated that if the authenticity of the video is confirmed, it represents a war crime that needs to be investigated.
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Kristinne Grigoryan, declared that the killing of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijani forces occurred on September 13 during Azerbaijan's large-scale attack on the Republic of Armenia.
