Ministry of Foreign Affairs Statement on Recent Azerbaijani Provocation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the gross violation of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan.
“On September 28, Azerbaijani military units, unlawfully located in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, opened fire again in blatant violation of the ceasefire regime, using mortars and large-caliber firearms toward the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, resulting in three deaths on the Armenian side.
This latest provocation by Azerbaijan is a continuation of the large-scale aggression that began on September 13 against the territorial integrity of Armenia. It is a blatant disregard for the calls made by the international community and member states of the UN Security Council to observe the established ceasefire regime. This reaffirms the warnings from the Armenian side that Azerbaijan is preparing to continue its policy of using force and expansionism.
Moreover, such provocations aim to undermine the scheduled meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries, discussions on which are currently underway.
In light of the situation, we urge the international community to exert pressure on Azerbaijan's military-political leadership through effective actions and by activating appropriate mechanisms to strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime, leave the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, and prevent new aggressions.
The Republic of Armenia will continue to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means provided for in the UN Charter,” the statement reads.
