Updated Data from Surmalu as of Midnight
Search and rescue operations, area clearance, and cooling work are ongoing. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Hayk Kostanyan.
As of 00:00, two citizens are considered missing, and the identity of another deceased citizen has not yet been clarified.
From August 14 to 16, approximately 665 rescuers and volunteers from the territorial and structural subdivisions of the emergency services participated in fire extinguishing and search and rescue operations at the Surmalu shopping center.
Preliminary data indicates that the area where fire extinguishing and rescue operations are carried out is about 1 hectare. A three-story building (approximately 2889 sq. m) has collapsed.
In these challenging conditions, rescuers, representatives of the Red Cross, and volunteers from the Armenia Emergency Situations are making tremendous efforts.
